As of November 2024, Dexcom Stelo does not appear to support the Follow service like other Dexcom CGMs (e.g., the G6 and G7). That means that Gluroo’s usual real-time integration for Dexcom sensors will not work with the Dexcom Stelo.
Dexcom Stelo on iPhone (not Android) can be configured to write blood glucose values into Apple HealthKit, but with a 2-3 hour time delay. Gluroo can import those (not-real-time) blood glucose estimations from the Stelo: you need to use Gluroo’s Menu > Devices > Other > Apple Health and “Enable” Apple Health on this device (after checking “Yes, this is the PWD phone”).
If you use Android as the PWD (Person With Diabetes) medical device, you may be able to use an upcoming release of Xdrip+ to control the Stelo instead of the official 1st-party app. You can follow their development work. We do NOT recommend this and do not endorse this.
Xdrip+ has many uses and for its other uses and is able to use Android-specific functionality to broadcast CGM values that it fetches from other sources directly to Gluroo on the same phone (and Gluroo then can synchronize those values to the other members of the GluCrew). For that, you need to:
1) run Gluroo on the same Android phone as Xdrip+
2) In Xdrip+, turn on Xdrip+ broadcasting under Settings > Inter-app settings > turn “Broadcast locally” to “ON”
3) Also in Xdrip+, check “Compatible Broadcast” lower on that same page
4) In Gluroo, under Menu > Settings > Devices > Other, scroll down to “Broadcast Listening” under the “Gluroo Local Integration” section and check that box to “Listen for BGL Broadcasts”
There are a number of devices where this may let you use a CGM with Gluroo that isn’t supported directly by Gluroo. These may include:
- Medtronic Guardian 4 or Simplera (use Xdrip+’s “Hardware Data Source set to “Companion App” or “CareLink Follower”)
- Senseonics Eversense (use Xdrip+’s “Hardware Data Source” set to “Companion App”)
CAUTION: Gluroo only recommends using 1st party apps for providing CGM values. Any use of Xdrip+ with Gluroo is unsupported and discouraged.
CAUTION: Gluroo is not intended for making treatment decisions or recommendations. This device is not intended to replace self-monitoring practices as advised by a physician. Do not alter any treatment plans without consultation with a qualified physician.
