Gluroo 2.0.1 – New Charts, New Look, Better Performance

We submitted a new version of Gluroo (2.0.1) to the App and Play stores and it will be rolling out soon. This is our biggest release this year, and we’re calling it v2 of Gluroo because of the number of significant changes.

In particular, this release includes a COMPLETE REVAMP OF CHARTING.  The new charts should feel a lot faster and smoother to you – they have inertial scrolling and the primary Drop Down Status chart (the one you get when you tap on the BG in the header of the app) is still infinite-scrolling.  Importantly, note that now you just swipe to move the chart left/right and you long-press drag to finger scrub to see the line-readout about what log entries and data are at a specific point in time.

Note that this new chart implementation is still early so there will be problems but the feedback we’ve heard from early testers is that it’s already better than what we had before so we’re releasing it now as we continue to polish it.  Please email us at help@gluroo.com with your bug reports on charting or anything else.

There are many other important changes and bugfixes including:

  • [charts] New completely overhauled charts implementation (see above description).
  • [charts] Chart Tab is removed.  The drop-down chart from the BG in the header now has a “link” button on its bottom left that makes finger-tracking on the chart scroll the log messages on the Log screen.
  • [perf] Whole lot of startup time improvements, reductions in network requests, smarter caching, etc., to improve efficiency and battery performance.
  • [polish] The expand/collapse inline chart icons and the header subheader collapse/open are now chevrons instead of triangles to attempt to make that functionality a little bit more discoverable.
  • [polish] The Drop Down Status tray (DDS Tray) now has a prominent “X” button to the bottom right; it can no longer be dismissed by swiping up.
  • [polish] The Drop Down Status tray now stays open as you switch among bottom tabs (instead of closing each time you change the tab you’re on) and stays the way you left it even on a full app restart. This lets you leave the chart open all the time if you want. Other tab content moves out of the way better than it used to.
  • [new-look] There are drop shadows on various UI elements to make them stand out more.
  • [new-look] The top header shows the blood sugar number a bit larger and no longer shows a small sparkline of the historical/recent readings – you have to tap the BG number to open the DDS tray chart to see the graph.
  • [polish] On the Log tab, swiping a message left/right to change its time now requires first a single tap on the message to make it a context/editable message before swiping (or using the “Set Time” button in the bottom context menu).
  • [feature] Tapping the date from the Chart and from the Gluroo Event Log now open a date picker that uses a calendar view instead of the native scrolling date picker.
  • [new-look] The Bottom tabs no longer drop their labels when you’re scrolling back in the Log (the entry text box and buttons still disappear to give more space to the log).
  • [new-look] Gluroo Event Log messages are now wider and the user sending the message is shown above the bubbles instead of to the left of the bubbles – the avatar image is aligned on a row with the BG and the date, now.
  • [new-look] The Meals tab now has a new look with Meal Cards and editability similar to how https://getflashsnack.com (our cousin product) works
  • [feature] Meals tab now makes it easier to add one or more snacks throughout the day.
  • [feature] Afrezza (inhaled insulin) is now supported. As of now, the Afrezza units are treated 1:1 with injected units; let us know how that’s working for you.
  • [feature] Juggluco broadcasts on Android phones are now handled by the Gluroo Local Integration. (alpha)
  • [reliability] Brand new dexcom follow CGM fetcher that’s higher performance, higher reliability, and very well isolated from other subsystems.  (Still being tested and rolled out.)
  • [reliability] Improvements to the twiist fetcher spread out our load on the twiist backend.
  • [i18n] Much improved translations in German, French, Italian, Swedish, Portuguese and Polish.  If you’re a native speaker of one of those languages, please let us know how we’re doing? E.g., if it used to be 1 out of 5 stars, are we up to 3, or 4, or 5 now? (Or just 2?)
